A message from Peter L. Slavin, MD, President of MGH

Peter L. Slavin, MD

On behalf of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and the Department of Orthopaedic Oncology, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Stanton family, especially Justin Stanton, and to all of the friends and supporters of the Kenneth Stanton Sarcoma Research Fund.

What started out in 2005 as an Eagle Scout project in tribute to Justin's father’s memory has grown into a major funding source for sarcoma research. To date, more than $254,000 has been raised to help MGH Cancer Center physician-scientists understand, treat and someday, hopefully, cure complex sarcomas. One of the projects the Stanton Fund has helped support at the MGH Cancer Center is the development of Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC)-chip technology. This breakthrough invention is now being commercialized through a collaboration with Veridex LLC, a Johnson & Johnson Company, and will enable oncologists to provide more personalized treatments for patients living with cancer.

Innovations like the CTC-chip hold great promise for cancer patients and their loved ones, and with the help of the Stanton Fund, the MGH Cancer Center is proud to be leading the way in shaping the future of cancer care. It has been a personal privilege for me to participate in the fund's signature event, the Kenneth Stanton Golf Tournament. This annual tournament is a wonderful fundraiser that brings together Stanton Fund supporters and MGH caregivers in working toward a common goal: saving lives.

On behalf of the hospital, thank you again for your valued support of the Kenneth Stanton Sarcoma Research Fund. Your generosity offers great hope to patients at the MGH Cancer Center and around the world.

Sincerely,
Peter L. Slavin, MD, MGH President
